- Given all these factors, it is natural that the Ashuri letters would change their forms and the way they are written - hence the need for the Estrangela letters. In the change from Ashuri to Estrangela letters, we see several things happening:
- Whereas, in Ashuri script, the letters are all stand-alone, in Estrangela, the letters are starting to become joined together.
- In Ashuri script, the letters are all very square-looking, but in Estrangela the letters are no longer all square. Their sizes and shapes can differ.
- Estrangela is designed more for much easier hand-writing, with ink, onto paper or parchment, and is therefore more cursive.
