- Over hundreds of years, it is therefore natural that Aramaic should also change the forms in which letters were written. Over an entire millennia - from around the time of Jesus or before, to the Crusades - a lot had changed. Writing material, for example, had gone from animal skins, to papyrus, to simple paper and onto high-quality parchment. Ink technology had also improved. Inks had been developed which could stay on the writing surface for hundreds of years, stable through the changing weather and seasons for decade after decade. Pen technology had also changed - from quills and feathers, through to metal nibs. And people had become more literate. And more people wanted God’s Word to be made available to them.
