- Swadaya is a further development of the written Aramaic language. It is also called the Madnhaya or Eastern script. It is also sometimes called the Modern, Contemporary or conversational Aramaic script, because it is often used in writing modern Neo-Aramaic.
- As we shall see, some of the letters in Swadaya take new forms or shapes, while others borrow heavily from the earlier Estrangela and Serta scripts. This illustrates why working your way through the various scripts is so beneficial. You will gain a better understanding of Aramaic as a whole, and the ability to read multiple scripts, by looking at them as historical developments over time.
