• To summarise what we have said so far, Serta is an extremely important historical development from the Ashuri and Estrangela scripts which we have already looked at. It probably started to become used around the fifth century A.D. onwards, especially in what we would today call the ‘Western’ part of the Middle East. Meanwhile, Swadaya would later become used in the ‘Eastern’ part of the Middle East, but extending far beyond the Middle East, into India and beyond.
