- In Serta script, the letters join together much more systematically. Writing in Serta, it is probably easier to write in one continuous, flowing line from right-to-left, which we have brought out many times in these video lessons. And as Serta was developed even further, and the basic ideas in Estrangela and Serta adapted for the Arabic language, we see in Arabic an even more elaborate development of the writing system. In Arabic, the letter forms themselves are a form of art. Calligraphy is highly ornate in Arabic. And in the Arabic language, all the letters are typically joined together and letters have initial, medial, stand-alone and final forms, depending on where they appear in the word.
