The Maccabean Revolt
- In the last lesson, we looked at the spread of the Greek Empire, all the way from the west (Greece, or Macedonia) to the east (as far as India). Following the rise of Alexander the Great, the Greek Empire spread very rapidly, conquering everything in its path, until Alexander’s unexpected death at the age of 33.
- As we have seen, in Nebuchadnezzar’s prophetic dream in Daniel chapter 2, where Nebuchadnezzar sees a great image made of four metals, the head of gold represents the Babylonian Empire, the two arms of silver represent the Medo-Persian Empire, and the belly and thighs of brass represent the Greek Empire.
