- Let us start by reminding ourselves of the history of this period. We have already met king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in the previous lesson on the Babylonian exile. As we saw, Nebuchadnezzar was the king who had a dream, a vision, of the empires that would follow his own, in Daniel chapter 2.
- King Nebuchadnezzar was the head of gold in the dream. He was a powerful king and his empire was huge.
- King Nebuchadnezzar came against Jerusalem in a siege with his army and conquered it. Jerusalem had fallen. He burned the city. In fact, parts of the walls which were burnt can be seen to this day in the City of David archaeological excavations in Jerusalem. The Temple built by Solomon, known as the First Temple, had now been destroyed.
