• Both the Assyrian and Babylonian Empires, therefore, arose out of the Fertile Crescent, the cradle of civilisation. The origins of Babylon go back to Nimrod, who would be a mighty hunter before the Lord, or in opposition to God. That Babylonian kingdom was always a snare in Israel’s side, and false religious ideas arising out of Babylon led Israel astray into idolatry. So too, thousands of years later, Christians also would be led astray by the false religion of Babylon. We find in the book of Revelation chapter 17, it is written:
• v.5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
